After visiting clients in Zhuhai, it really doesn't make sense to head to Shenzhen Bao'an or Guangzhou Baiyun Airport for a flight. So, I decided to try something new—taking a bus from the Zhuhai Port, crossing the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to Hong Kong. It turned out to be quick and convenient, with the added bonus of being able to check in my luggage directly from Zhuhai. Since direct flights between China and Taiwan started, I haven't passed through Hong Kong as often. This new route added a bit of novelty to my routine.
This time, like my flight BR188 from Shenzhen to Taipei last November, I flew on a B-17881, a 6-year-old 787-9. After landing, the plane would likely continue on to either BR95 from Taipei to Milan or BR71 from Taipei to Munich. Given that it was a Friday, it was probably BR71. The business class seats on the 787-9 and 787-10 use RECARO forward-facing seats. They're suitable and comfortable for short trips, but for long hauls, there's room for improvement. When lying flat at 180 degrees, the space between seats is a bit tight, making it uncomfortable for taller passengers.

Champagne Castelnau Millésime Brut 2006
EVA Air's onboard champagne has never disappointed me. Although there are noticeable level differences between the champagnes served on special routes, long-haul, and short-haul flights, they all meet a high standard. For short-haul flights, they serve Castelnau Millésime Brut. It has a balanced taste with distinct yeast, smoky, and toasted bread aromas—characteristics of well-aged champagne. Initially, there's a hint of apple acidity on the palate, which complements the caramel and honey finish. While it's not as enchanting as Laurent-Perrier NV, it's still quite good. Unfortunately, the first glass had fine, persistent bubbles, but the second one lacked fizz—probably because they forgot to reseal the bottle in time. Since I eat slowly, I was mid-meal when the flight attendant, without any warning, cleared my plate and apologized, leaving me a bit stunned. I couldn't help but envy the passenger next to me, who started eating earlier but had their plate taken later. This reminded me of how Starlux Airlines ensures a leisurely dining experience on their short-haul routes. The sea bass was thick and satisfying, though a bit dry, and the scallion sauce could have been more flavorful, perhaps due to diminished taste sensitivity at high altitudes.
In my opinion, in business class, the age distribution of flight attendants should be balanced, especially on long-haul flights where there tend to be more senior attendants. In my experience, older flight attendants often lack the natural, friendly interaction that younger ones provide. For instance, when traveling alone, I’ve had older flight attendants ask if the nearby young child was mine. It felt as awkward as being directly asked about my age—why not ask the child or the accompanying adult? Younger attendants have never asked me such questions. It might not be intentional, but it reflects a generational gap. A ten-year age difference can mean a better mutual understanding. Younger attendants also find it easier to strike up a conversation. Sometimes, if we hit it off, we might end up sharing a wine tour in Napa Valley or enjoying sushi at Sushi Amamoto in Taiwan.
